Best New Artist?

The canadian band Metric started their career in 1998 in Toronto. The band includes four members, Emily Haines (vocals), James Shaw (guitarist), Josh Winsted (bassist) and Joules Scott-Key (drummer). The band released their first full length album in 2003 titled “Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?”, which won a Juno for Best Alternative Album.

The Swedish artist Tim Bergling more commonly known as Avicii, just became hugely popular in the U.S. The hit song Levels is played on almost every radio station, and for many was the hit dance song of the summer. Although there is much more to Avicii than simply a one- hit wonder, he has produced many other tracks  and remixes that are just as good.

Check out “Penguin”, it’s even better if you think about penguins while listening.

OR “Fade into the Darkness”

YAWN, no they are not boring at all, they are the exact opposite. YAWN is a wonderful combination of  both rock and electronic music genres. Yawn is touring with the kooks right now, and was most recently at First Avenue. They are hard to find on youtube, but they are available on iTunes.

Worst Song of the Week

Welcome back to YouTube Rebecca Black. Nice try, but “Person of Interest” isn’t any better than “Friday”. I understand that  Rebecca met a boy, but I really don’t think getting the authorities involved was necessary. Black just needs to give it a rest, and comprehend the fact that the only reason “Friday” was actually popular was because people made fun of it.

The Avett Brothers are  a Folk-Rock band from North Carolina, founded by  Seth and Scott Avett, the bands popularity soared after their 2007 album release “Emotionalism.” Their next album “I and Love and You” was even more successful and brought them up to number 16 in the U.S album charts.

The Canadian band Stars started their career in 2001, and have producing records ever since. The band produces beautiful and eloquent indie pop with soft vocals and descriptive lyrics.

The song “Dead Hearts” is featured in the new movie “Like Crazy.”

Also check out “Elevator Love Letter” one of their older tracks.

Artist of the Day

Gavin DeGraw started his career in little Manhattan clubs, and got his big break when the song “Don’t Want to Be” was featured in the hit TV show “One Tree Hill.” DeGraws’ first album was “Chariot” released in 2003 and his most recent album release is “Sweeter” which features the song “Not Over You.”

Artist of the Day

Gregg Gillis better known as Girl Talk started his career in 2002 with the album “Secret Diary”. Girl Talk produces mash-up style remixes of current and old songs! My favorite track is from “Feed The Animals”, titled “Here’s The Thing”.

Worst Song of the Week

Worst song of the week goes to “Swagger Jagger”. According to X- Factor winner Cher Lloyd from London, we all need to get our own swagger jagger. Whatever that means. I really do not think I have heard a worse song in my life, well it might be tied with some of Justin Bieber’s hits. Check out “Swagger Jagger”  which, reminds me slightly of “Friday”, but this time a real artist, record producing artist.
